Synopsis: Two young actors - Withnail and Marwood - share a crummy London flat and are hunting vainly for work, with little luck. Withnail persuades his rich and eccentric uncle Monty to lend them his country house for a few weeks; but they find the country just as cold and unsympathetic as the town. Then Uncle Monty joins them and sets out immediately to seduce Marwood. Withnail admits that he told his uncle that Marwood was gay (he's not) because otherwise they wouldn't have had a chance of getting the house.
